FIELD: chemical technology, hydrometallurgy, inorganic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method involves interaction of lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate suspension with chlorine and obtained solution is heated to 50-100 C at pH 11 in the presence of catalyst consisting of metal hydroxides. Then catalyst-containing precipitate is removed and recovered its to reuse. Solution is subjected for cleaning from aluminium impurity by its precipitation as hydroxide that is separated from solution and the latter is fed to production of commercial lithium chloride. EFFECT: decreased loss of lithium and catalyst. 1 tbl
