FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: by means of first ultrasonic transducer positioned on external surface of pipeline ultrasonic oscillations are introduced normally to external surface of pipeline through pipeline wall, deposits on internal surface of pipeline and through flow section filled with liquid. Ultrasonic oscillations reflected from boundary between liquid and opposite internal surface of tube having deposits are taken by the same ultrasonic transducer. Oscillation passage time t1 is measured. This done, second ultrasonic transducer positioned on external surface of pipeline diametrically opposite to first ultrasonic transducer is used to radiate ultrasonic oscillations in direction of first ultrasonic transducer. Ultrasonic oscillations reflected from boundary between liquid and opposite internal surface of tube having deposits are taken, and time t2 of passage of ultrasonic oscillations is measured. Then time t3 of ultrasonic oscillation passage from first to second ultrasonic transducers is measured, and pipeline flow section is determined by formula: D = [(t1+t2-2t3)c]/2, where D is diameter of pipeline flow section and C is speed of ultrasound in liquid. Measurements can be performed with pipeline filled with water. EFFECT: higher accuracy of pipeline flow section measurement, performance of measurements without interruption of pipeline operation. 2 cl, 1 dwg
