SUBSTANCE: method includes supply of metal blank to gap between electrodes, passing through metal blank of pulse of current with density of I > Im, where I is current density sufficient for prevention of nonuniform heating of blank; Im is current density value below which magnetodynamic instability of constriction type occurs. Under these conditions uniform heating of blank is maintained to prevent development of magnetohydrodynamic instability of constriction type. Blank is not separated by constriction into drops, and resistance heating takes place uniformly over its length. EFFECT: provision of production of ultrafine powders with more narrow size spread of particles and minor amount of large particles. 2 dwg, 2 tbl
