FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: method consists in bringing hydrocarbon-containing raw material in contact with oxygen-containing gas and optionally water vapor at oxygen to carbon molar ratio from 0.45 to 0.75 and elevated pressure and adiabatic conditions in a reaction zone containing catalyst. The latter contains VIII group metal on carrier. Catalyst is maintained within reaction zone in a fixed structure with high degree of sinuosity. This structure is preferably a stationary bed with catalyst macroparticles or ceramic foam. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 10 cl, 3 tbl
