FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a mixture of carbon monooxide and hydrogen from methane, natural gas, side gas or other sources of light hydrocarbons. Method involves contact of the parent hydrocarbon raw and oxygen-containing gas under increased pressure and at temperature at least 950 C with catalyst containing rhodium, iridium or ruthenium as a catalytically active metal at volume gas rate from above 500000 to 50000000 nl/l/h. Invention provides the required conversion degree for relative short time contact between reacting gases and catalyst. EFFECT: improved method of oxidation. 11 cl, 1 tbl
