FIELD: coatings of cermet inserts with surface zone. SUBSTANCE: method includes enriching with binding phase by dissolving of cubic phase in the required conditions which provide for formation of stratified layers. Combination of dissolving of cubic phase with formation of stratified layers offers new possibility for obtaining the optimal properties of powder metallurgical alloys based on tungsten carbide for manufacture of cutting tools. Dissolving of cubic phase transfers the zone with maximum amount of layer binding phase from the surface to the zone near and below the front of dissolving. Depth of dissolving intermediate equilibrium and cooling rate are controlled to provide for production of powder metallurgical alloys with unique combination of impact strength and resistance to plastic deformation.
