FIELD: powder metallurgy, in particular, manufacture of metal ceramic cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: cutter has hard alloy cutting insert equipped with coating and comprising substrate produced by pressing of basic powders followed by caking thereof in medium with equilibrium partial pressure of nitrogen necessary for providing desirable depth of binder-enriched zone. Basic powders contain tungsten, carbon, binder including at least one of cobalt, nickel, iron or alloys thereof, and at least one component of the group comprising titanium, tantalum, niobium, hafnium, zirconium and vanadium. Substrate has inclined surface, side surface and cutting edge arranged at inclined and side surfaces intersection site. Substrate has binder-enriched zone of non-laminated enrichment type, said zone being free from carbon release. Binder-enriched zone begins in the vicinity of cutting edge and inclined and/or side surface and is running toward substrate main zone, said zone having porosity above C00 in accordance with ASTM Designation B276-91 standards. Coating is applied onto cutting edge and onto at least part of inclined and/or side surface.
EFFECT: increased efficiency by providing regulation of depth of binder-enrichment zone, elimination of carbon release in binder-enriched zone, and increased strength of adhesion between coating and substrate.
