METHOD OF CONVERTER CHARGING Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: metallurgy, in particular, processes of charging of metal scrap and hot metal into converter before starting melt blowing with oxygen. SUBSTANCE: method includes charging of metal scrap by scoops into inclined converter and hot metal charging from ladle with the help of hoisting crane. Prior to inclined converter charging, scrap located in scoops is coated with a layer of air-mechanical foam based on surfactants with layer thickness equalling 0.1-0.4 thickness of scrap in scoop. In other version of the claimed method, air-mechanical foam is supplied to converter onto layer of scrap. The foam is material promoting reduction of rate and intensity of oxidation of metal scrap combustible components. EFFECT: reduced spitting of ecologically harmful gases from converter in the course of hot-metal charging following the scrap charging; increased stability of equipment and cranes surrounding the converter. 1 cl
