FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to production of steel in oxygen converters using hot briquetted iron (HBI). Steel is melted out in oxygen converter, at that, into metal blanking is introduced HBI in amount of not more than 20 % of total weight of metal filling, and melting blowdown is performed by adding HBI in portions of 0.1–8.0 t with total flow of not more than 50 t, wherein additive of last portion HBI is performed not later than 10 minutes from the beginning of blowdown.
EFFECT: invention increases amount of charge introduced into the mixture HBI as initial raw material for a range with strict requirements for content of residual elements and harmful gases, obtaining maximum degree of reduction of iron from iron oxides HBI in the absence of local sintering effect HBI, and also to increase yield of non-defective steel.
