METHOD FOR RESTORATION OF COMPRESSED REINFORCED CONCRETE ARTICLES Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: construction engineering. SUBSTANCE: according to method, fully or partly relieved earlier compressed articles of reinforced concrete structures damaged by fire are subjected to examination so as to determine thermally damaged sections. Occurred in working reinforcement of aforesaid articles are residual longitudinal thermal stresses. Then reinforcement bars and core of undamaged concrete are freed from destructed layer of material. Residual stresses in working reinforcement within thermally damaged sections of compressed reinforced concrete article are taken out by alternate cutting of tensioned bars of working reinforcement. After that, integrity of cut reinforcement bars is restored by butt-joint welding. Metal of welded butt joint is equal in strength to annealed steel of working reinforcement. Additional reinforcement is installed if required. Its cross-sectional area is calculated according to formula brought forward in description of invention. Application of aforesaid method allows for restoring operating characteristics of compressed reinforced concrete article, including its load-bearing capacity, longevity and fire resistance at minimal expenses.
