FIELD: hydrogenation catalysts and carriers. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to catalysts designed for use in hydrogenation processes employed for refining oil fractions. Granules formed from initial mixture are dried and cyclically calcined, temperature rise period in each calcination cycle being altered with isothermal curing period. In the first calcination cycle, temperature is raised from maximum drying temperature to the first characteristic temperature. Characteristic temperature is determined by corresponding extreme in temperature dependence of material contraction rate. Subsequent isothermal curing is effected at maximum temperature of the first calcination cycle. In each following calcination cycle, temperature is raised from maximum temperature of preceding calcination cycle to the next characteristic temperature with isothermal curing at maximum temperature of the same calcination cycle. Such sequence of conditions is carried out until end heat-treatment temperature is attained. EFFECT: improved strength characteristics of adsorbents and catalyst carriers with no additional agents involved. 8 cl
