FIELD: organic chemistry, production of β-carotene. SUBSTANCE: β-carotene is produced by condensation of retinyl triphenyl phosphonium and retinene in organic solvent on alcohol base. The process takes place in the presence of alkali agent at pH 11-13.5. Isolation of carotene is carried out of aqueous-organic reaction mass heated to 40-80 C.
