METHOD OF PURIFICATION OF TECHNICAL βCAROTENE Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: pharmaceutical industry and technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of preparing pharmacopoeia β-carotene used in compositions of pharmaceutical preparations, as food dyes and in veterinary science. Purification of technical β-carotene is carried out by its dissolution in organic solvent at increased temperature followed by mixing with desalting out agent and isolation of crystals. For desalting out organic solvent heated to its boiling point and containing 0.5-5% of water is used. Solvent is mixed with solution of β-carotene and obtained mixture is kept without stirring up to boiling ceasation followed by cooling to the room temperature at stirring.
