FIELD: thermometry, processes of high-temperature liquid-phase reduction of metals from oxide compositions in metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: device measuring temperature of corrosive melts has thermocouple which working junction is located in protective tip arranged in duct of metal block. Metal block is manufactured in the form of cylinder with axial longitudinal thimble joined to water-cooled body where working junction of thermocouple with protective ceramic tip is placed. Part of cylinder protrudes beyond limits of body. Groove is cut in its surface at distance of 0.3-0.4 of its length from external butt of cylinder. Design of device makes it possible to diminish heat removal from junction of thermocouple to water-cooled body, to enhance mechanical rigidity of metal block being under action of high temperature and gravitational force. Device gives possibility to measure temperature of medium directly by contact of metal block with it and to protect metal block from action of oxidizing or reducing high- temperature gas atmosphere. While device operates ceramic tip does not experience considerable thermal shock during contact with medium which temperature it measures. Diameter and width of groove are rigorously specific values.
