FIELD: plastic metal working, namely system for improving operational modes of forging press due to increasing size of blank effectively forged with use of power of such press. SUBSTANCE: forging press operates with use of group of die sets including one or several sectionized die sets (divided by two, preferably by three or more parts). Sectionized die set has means for retracting it allowing to selectively displace one section in front of another along forging axis and to fix it. Each die set is mounted directly in forging press or it is mounted onto respective die cushion. When blank is forged said retracted section is primary one for imparting a large part of effort to blank. Non-retracted sections are secondary units: they serve only for controlling reactions of other parts of blank. Then sections are alternated: non-retracted sections are retracted and vice versa. Forging process is repeated with primary forging unit being newly retracted section or sections. Therefore total forging effort of forging press is successively acts upon several portions of blank and each blank portion is subjected to higher forging pressure. In the result blank may be forged more effectively or such high forging pressure may be used for working large-size blank. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of method, improved design of press. 24 cl, 14 dwg
