FIELD: production of articles from quartz glass by reshaping glass billet. SUBSTANCE: article is produced by melting of glass mass, producing a hollow billet, zone heat treatment of billet and cutting with subsequent reshaping of billet into article in electric furnace in protective medium on heated refractory plate with use of device for mechanical action on billet. In this case, refractory plate and device for mechanical action on billet are made from material not wettable with glass. Device for mechanical action on billet may be made from heat-resistant material with high heat capacity and low heat conduction, for instance, from quartz glass, and its temperature in process of reshaping is below the temperature of billet by 50-250 C. Installed coaxially in hollow of billet is core of refractory material which may be unfolding or folding under gravity. EFFECT: higher adaptability to manufacture of quartz articles. 5 cl
