FIELD: automotive industry; exhaust systems of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: muffler has housing with front and rear end face walls, inlet branch pipe and outlet branch pipe formed by walls of inner hollow perforated cylinder and housing. Its outlet section is arranged at side of rear end face wall and perforations of inner hollow cylinder are made at side of front end face wall. Partitions forming slot channels can be installed between walls of inner hollow perforated cylinder and housing. Additional cylinder can be installed inside hollow perforated cylinder, additional cylinder being connected with inlet branch pipe. Additional cylinder accommodates tape helix with clearance between turns. Surface of helix and inner surface of housing can be provided with catalytic coating. Housing of muffler is cross section can be made elliptical. EFFECT: reduced noise level. 5 cl, 2 dwg
