FIELD: acoustic and radio measurement used to determine modulus and phase of specular reflectance of sheet materials and flat surfaces of substances. SUBSTANCE: isotropic reflector is positioned above surface of examined substance and is irradiated together with it by flat field of fixed particle ( and of polarization in case of electromagnetic field ) formed by antenna. Novelty of invention lies in integration of reception antenna with transmission one. Its axis is directed to point of projection of isotropic reflector on to tested underlying surface and isotropic reflector moves along normal to surface. Ratio of maximum and minimum powers received by antenna, minimum height of reflector above separation boundary corresponding to maximum of signal received by antenna are recorded. It enables measurements of complex specular reflectance of various substances, for instance surface of soil, on fixed frequency with fixed elevation to be conducted. Modulus of specular reflectance and phase of specular reflectance are determined by given formulas. EFFECT: increased precision and reduced labor input in measurements of specular reflectance from flat surface of substance.
