SUBSTANCE: method is realised by significantly reducing dominant estimation errors of the scattering cross-section in multi-beam radio wave propagation conditions, caused by the spherical shape of the phase front of the illuminating field and the drop in the intensity thereof at the aperture boundaries of the test object, the different level and nature of the intensity distribution of the illuminating field at the aperture of the object and a reference reflector located at different distances and heights over the underlying surface of the test site, the mismatch between the power of the received echo signal from the reference reflector in multi-beam radio wave propagation conditions and the nominal value of the scattering cross-section thereof, defined for free space conditions. The disclosed method can be carried out at open-type test sites when measuring the scattering cross-section of samples of large mobile equipment in the centimetre-decimetre wavelength ranges.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring the scattering cross-section diagram of large objects.
