FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radio measurements and can be used to determine the reflection coefficient from the earth's surface, including with the use of flight-lifting facilities. Method of determining the reflection coefficient from the earth's surface involves emitting and receiving a narrow-band radio signal at points with a known location. Reception of a radio signal is carried out with the help of at least two vertically spaced receiving antennas, measuring complex envelopes of signals received by antennae, taking into account mutual and relative to terrestrial surface position of emitter and receiving antennas, by combination of direct and reflected waves, as functions of possible values of reflection coefficient, generating reference signals, determining function of their correlation with measured complex envelopes, by position of maximum of which determining reflection coefficient. Correlation function is obtained by multiplying complex envelope by complex conjugated reference signals of corresponding antenna, summation of multiplication results by set of antennas, quadratic detection of the sum signal, its normalization by the sum of the set of antennas of square-detected reference signals and averaging of normalization results during the reception.

EFFECT: method enables to reduce time costs and provide real-time measurements, including in motion, can be used for rapid inspection of reflecting properties of the earth's surface using flight-lifting facilities.
