FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, more particularly production of magnesium by electrolysis of melt from oxide-chloride stock. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises leaching magnesium from oxide stock to produce chloromagnesium solutions, purifying and concentrating thereof, mixing solution or magnesium chloride hydrate with anhydrous electrolyte, dehydrating mixture using chlorinating agent, electrolyzing anhydrous magnesium chloride to produce magnesium anodic chlorine and electrolyte during stock preparation process, and converting chlorine to produce hydrogen chloride. Purified chloromagnesium solution and/or magnesium chloride hydrates resulting from oxide stock using chlorine and hydrogen chloride, prior to being dehydrated, are additionally mixed with ground solid potassium chloride and/or solid potassium electrolyte to attain 0.5-1.0 ratio in KCl:MgCl2 mixture, heating to temperature of lower than 150 C and cooling under continuous agitation to produce synthetic carnallite containing not more than 5 wt.% liquid phase and dehydrating carnallite. EFFECT: simplified technology and lower costs. 22 cl, 1 ex
