FIELD: metallurgical industry; applicable in production of magnesium by electrolysis. SUBSTANCE: 1000 kg of purified concentrated magnesium chloride solution containing, wt. %: MgCl2, 32.7; HCl, 0.9; NaCl, 1.0; H2O, 65.4 is mixed with 345 kg of ground solid potassium electrolyte of magnesium electrolyzer containing, wt. %: MgCl2, 8.2; KCl, 74.2; NaCl, 16.7; impurities, 0.9. Added to mixture are 11.7 kg of powdery technical potassium chloride containing, wt. %: KCl, 95.0; NaCl, 5.0. Weigh ratio of Mg:K in mixture is 0.65. In the course of mixing, mixture is heated up to 150 C. Mixture is dewatered up to content of crystal water of 2-6 moles per mole of KCl MgCl2. Weight ratio of Mg:K in carnallite is 0.5-0.8. EFFECT: simplified process, excluded from process large amount of reusable solutions, reduced energy consumption. 1 ex
