FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to dehydrating solid carnallite hexahydrate when being prepared for electrolytic magnesium production. Carnallite hexahydrate impregnated by mother liquor is commonly dehydrated, while parameters of heat carrier are changed during the process, in two fluid-bed furnaces, one being operated in continuous mode and the latter in periodical mode. In this process, chlorine is fed at least into furnace extension of the last furnace and chlorine to hydrogen weight ratio in components fed into fluid-bed furnace extensions does not exceed 30: 1. Method of invention is distinguished by introducing one more intermediate furnace connected with other furnaces of installation by transportation means so that it can operate in parallel with the last furnace in periodical mode or in series with the first furnace in continuous mode. Each of furnaces has extension, gas-distribution grate, and dust collector as well as mechanisms for charging initial material and discharging product.
