ELECTROCHEMICAL DEVICE FOR FEEDING ENERGY USING AIR ELECTRODE Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

Abstract RU 2119701 C1

FIELD: electrochemical devices for energy storage and generation. SUBSTANCE: device has set of electrochemical cells and is provided with extreme positive electrode and extreme negative electrode separated by one or more bipolar intermediate electrodes each having positive side and negative one; positive side of each bipolar electrode incorporates conducting base with porous conducting layer. Foamed air/oxygen pair dispersed in electrolyte is held in contact with positive sides of bipolar electrodes. According to invention, use may be made of oxygen/sulfur pair; these chemical agents may be presented, for example, by sodium salts in aqueous solutions and common equation of reaction may be written in the following form: 4H2O+4S2-+2O2→ 8OH-+4S.. This process should be better conducted in set of cells built up of line of bipolar electrodes each having positive and negative sides separated by membrane which divides cells into anolyte and catholyte chambers for anolyte and catholyte solutions circulating through these chambers. EFFECT: improved design of air electrode which can be electrically recharged and ensures cost- effective energy production. 13 cl, 4 dwg, 2 ex
