FIELD: mechanical engineering; engines; reduction of discharge of harmful substances with exhaust gases. SUBSTANCE: electromechanical filter has housing accommodating corona-forming and receiving electrodes. One end of corona-forming electrode is secured on insulator, while the other, is installed for displacement. Receiving electrode has filtering element made in the form of filled catalyst or foamed ceramics or two metal sheets, one of which is made corrugated, while the other, plain, with needles pointed to corona-forming electrode. With filter operating, soot particles from exhaust gas passing through electromechanical filter are charged in inter-electrode space and are deposited on catalyst where they are burned out. Efficiency of exhaust gas cleaning is checked by soot pickup and is regulated by changing voltage between electrodes and flow rate of air through insulator of corona-forming electrode. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency and reliability of device. 6 cl, 5 dwg
