FIELD: medicine, more particularly 2-phenyl-benzo (b) furan and thiophene derivatives which are useful for treating extrogen-dependent diseases. SUBSTANCE: in order to produce benzo (b) thiophenes, orthothiomethyl styrene is cyclized by means of mixture of sulfuryl chloride and pyridine. In this case, as reaction proceeds, orthothiomethyl styrene is converted to corresponding sulfochloride which is converted by means of pyridine to chlorosulfide as methyl chloride is detached, and is then cyclized as HCl is separated into benzo (b) thiophene.
