FIELD: radiation study of internal structures of objects with use of penetrating radiation. SUBSTANCE: decrease of radiation action on examined objects with provision for reliable determination of parameters of variable component of signal of detector is achieved with detection of rotary beam of X-radiation having shaped cross-section that has passed through examined object. For this there is used detector operating under counting mode. Signal of detector is directed into three channels of count. First channel operates continuously in the course of each interval of unit count, time of information collection and two other channels are commutated with phase shift through 90 deg and operate in the course of half-period of change of signal of detector in each such period. Differences of doubled results of count of second and third channels and of result of count in first channel are formed for processing. Amplitude and phase of change of signal of detector are determined on basis of obtained differences. Amplitude and result of count of first channel are used to evaluate modulation depth of this signal. Mentioned procedure can be used to study periodic processes described by Poisson's sequence of pulses with time modulated intensity.
