FIELD: radiation methods for investigating inner structure of objects (pipes). SUBSTANCE: method involves formation of shadow projection of object under investigation by scanning it with collimated radiation beam and detecting collimated beam and object being investigated at relative displacement through radiation objects; relative displacement is effected while feeding investigated pipe over spiral between collimators. Device implementing this method has X- ray radiator, collimators, roll-train line for setting in motion pipe being investigated over spiral, radiation detector, and display unit. Device is compact and makes it possible to reliably check a pipe for wall thickness and for its deviation from standard, to repeatedly irradiate shadow images, to record number of defects and their location, to make high- precision estimation of pipe geometry deviation from specified norm, and to reuse spent pipes. EFFECT: enlarged functional capabilities. 4 cl, 3 dwg
