FIELD: handling radioactive wastes. SUBSTANCE: container has body closed on top with sealing cover and removable part inserted into it and provided with diaphragms whose holes receive cans with spent fuel assemblies spaced apart therein. Cans of different sizes are either installed with their bottom ends on container bottom or suspended from supporting collars in removable- part plate holes through collars of cans. Clearance between center of tolerance field for top ends of cans and center of tolerance field for displacement through height of container space, can height, and height of can and removable-part diaphragms, as well as to center of tolerance fields of symmetry axes of diaphragms of cans in their initial and final positions in container are shifted through half the clearance relative to center of tolerance fields of symmetry planes of removable-part diaphragms. Total height of cylindrical surfaces of removable-part diaphragms and those of can is 2.2-3.0 of total tolerance for displacement through height of container space, can and can diaphragm height, and that of removable part.
