FIELD: handling spent nuclear fuel of reactors. SUBSTANCE: container has body 1 with bottom 2, inner and outer sealing lids 3 and 4. Outer sealing lid and body bottom are made so that they function at the same time as damping members. Inserted in body cavity is can 5 incorporating diaphragms 6-9 with holes or cells to receive cases holding spent fuel assemblies. Diaphragms 6-9 are joined together by means of shielding metal structures made either in the form of shells or sheet panels, Container is provided with end damping members 14-17 mounted over circumference on top and bottom diaphragms 6 and 9 of can 5, on their external side. End damping members 14 mounted on bottom diaphragm 9 also function as supporting members of can 5 engageable with bottom of body 1. End damping members 15-17 installed on top diaphragm 5 are designed for engaging inner sealing lid 3 and for plastic deformation. In addition end damping members 15 function as rigging members of can 5 and end damping member 16 serves as connecting member for vertical tubular passage running through diaphragms 6-9 for evacuating water from cavity bottom in body 1. Guiding member installed in upper part of cavity is engageable with mating member to ensure desired angular position of can relative to longitudinal axis of body 1.
