METHOD OF PLATYPHILLINE HYDROTARTRATE PREPARING Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: chemical-pharmaceutical industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing drug from vegetable raw. Method involves milling groundsel (Senecio) herb by rolling. Total alkaloids are extracted with 40-70% an aqueous-alcoholic solution. Then an aqueous-alcoholic extract is concentrated, N-oxide forms of alkaloids in extract are reduced and total alkaloid bases are converted to methylene chloride solution. The obtained alkaloid sulfate salts in an aqueous solution are purified with methylene chloride and technical sum of alkaloid bases are precipitated with ammonia. Technical platyphilline base is separated by treatment of total alkaloid product with boiling 96% alcohol followed by filtration. Then from an alcoholic filtrate containing the added tartaric acid a technical platyphilline hydrotartrate is isolated by crystallization. After recrystallization from 90% alcohol with activated carbon platyphilline hydrotartarate of pharmacopoeia quality is obtained.
