FIELD: application of coats in vacuum. SUBSTANCE: evaporator includes heater, shields, crucible and insert mounted in this crucible at clearance at level of molten metal or above it. Insert consists of two cones mounted coaxially with their vertices towards each other. Lower cone is truncated; outer diameter of its base is equal to inner diameter of crucible. Inner diameter of cone in truncated vertex is chosen from the following relationship: where dtr.v. is inner diameter of lower cone in truncated vertex and dcr.in. is inner diameter of crucible. Upper cone provided with supports is mounted coaxially relative to lower cone. Vertex of upper cone lies at level of truncated vertex of lower cone; outer diameter of base of upper cone exceeds inner diameter of truncated vertex of lower cone. In applying the coat, no splashes get on backing. EFFECT: avoidance of splashes on backing; enhanced reliability and efficiency of evaporator. 2 dwg
