FIELD: organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises combined oxidation of 2- mercaptobenzthiazole or alkaline salt thereof and tert- butylamine with alkaline metal hypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide in aqueous medium followed by addition of alkaline metal hydroxide to reaction mixture and recovery of the desired product 2-mercaptobenzthiazole or alkaline salt thereof, tert-butylamine and oxidizing agent are used in 1:(1.1-10):(1.02-1.25) molar ratio respectively. Process is carried out at 20-40 C. Alkaline metal aqueous hydroxide solution is used at (0.01-0.3):1 molar ratio with respect to 2-mercaptobenzthiazole and is added to reaction mixture. After alkalization of mixture, excess amount of tert-butylamine is removed, and N-tert- butyl-2-benzthiazole sulpheneamide is isolated from the resulting suspension. New method is effective, reproducible on industrial scale and makes it possible to attain high and stable yield of the desired product with optimum concentrations of the ingredients used.
