FIELD: combination of coils in continuous rolling mills in metallurgical and machine engineering industry branches. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of making on end portions of strips turned one to another uniformly arranged recesses whose width is no more than strip thickness, providing ratio of cross section areas of recesses and protrusions dividing them 1 < Srecess/Sprotr ≤ 2.; matching protrusions of end portion of one strip with recesses of end portion of another strip; heating volume of welded metal until temperature no higher than its phase conversion temperature; deforming metal volume by upsetting it simultaneously along the whole area of welded joint until thickness value of one strip; providing enhanced strength of welded joint not only due to diffusion with formation of common grains but also due to enhanced shear strength of protrusions of base metal of strip end portions. EFFECT: enhanced strength of welded joints of strips. 3 dwg, 1 expm
