FIELD: dehydration of petroleum using thawing. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises treating petroleum with deemulsifier reagent on heating and settling with disintegration of intermediate layer formed at petroleum-water boundary when said intermediate layer is periodically treated with reagent which is secondary butyl alcohol production waste during butylene hydration in the presence of sulfuric acid at hydrolysis stage. Reagent (secondary butyl alcohol production waste during butylene hydration process in the presence of sulfuric acid at hydrolysis stage) is used in amount of 5-10% of the intermediate layer volume. The present invention makes it possible to reduce consumption of reagent and improve quality of the petroleum to be prepared and drainage water. EFFECT: more efficient dehydration method. 2 cl, 17 ex, 2 tbl
