FIELD: manufacture of building materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ceramic high- strength, wear-resistant sidewalk slabs, pavement stones, and various-destination plates. They are manufactured from raw mixture containing, wt %: ground quartz sand, 30-60; broken glass, 2-5; borax, 3-5; sodium hydroxide (on conversion to sodium oxide), 5-10; and nonground quartz sand, the balance. Method is distinguished by that ground mixture of sand, broken glass, and borax is agitated with nonground glass, moistened with sodium hydroxide solution to moisture content 6-8%, pressed on underpans at specific pressure 70 to 170 kg/sq.cm, and dried at 850-900 C for 70-80 min. Physico-chemical characteristics of products: moisture absorption 2-8%, frost resistance in brines over 68 to 170 cycles, compression strength 55- 120 Mpa, bend strength 19-58 Mpa, wear resistance, 0.11-0.31 g/sq.cm.
