FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used at thermal cracking plants when producing oil stock for production of, in particular, carbon black, coke, pitch, and so on. Improved method includes thermal cracking of mixture of distillate products and oil residues from primary crude oil processing in the first furnace, isolation of gas oil fraction and cracking residue from products of thermal cracking, repeated thermal cracking of isolated gas oil fraction combined with aromatized petroleum product from the second furnace, and isolation of cracking residue by rectification. Thermal cracking of mixture of distillate products and oil residues of primary crude oil processing in the first furnace is carried out at 400-550 C in dependence on distillate/residue weight ratio (0.01 and higher). Desired product (feedstock for production of carbon materials) is either (i) cracking residue of the repeated thermal cracking of gas oil fraction isolated from products of thermal cracking of distillate products and oil residues of primary crude oil processing mixed with aromatic petroleum products or (ii) mixture of the above-named cracking residue and cracking residue of thermal cracking of mixture of distillate products and oil residues in the first furnace. EFFECT: increased yield of desired product and considerably simplified technology. 1 tbl
