FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of dimethylnaphthalenes by isomerization of initial mixture in presence of catalyst, containing either beta-zeolite or acidic crystalline ultra-stable Y-type zeolite with silicon oxides-to-aluminum oxides molar ratio from 4: 1 to 10: 1, having pore size determined by twelve-membered oxygen-containing cycles and elementary cell size 24.2- 24.7 , at elevated temperature and pressure high enough to maintain initial isomerization mixture in liquid state. EFFECT: increased isomerization selectivity. 11 cl, 6 tbl
