FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: dimethylnaphthalene or mixture of dimethylnaphthalenes are produced in liquid phase process by dehydrogenation of mixture of dimethyltetralins in presence of precious metal on carrier as dehydrogenation catalyst at elevated temperature, advantageously 200-300 C, and pressure high enough to maintain starting material in liquid state.
