FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: aluminum-containing substance is dissolved in hydrochloric acid and non-dissolved residue is filtered off. Solids-free solution is evaporated to crystallize aluminum chloride hexahydrate, which is heated at 150-200 C until decomposed into solid basic aluminum chloride. The latter is added to sulfuric acid to be dissolved with formation of aluminum chloride-sulfate solution, which is further thermally treated.
