FIELD: transport engineering; vehicle suspensions. SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method, in addition to changing of passage area of channel connecting damper spaces depending on pressure difference between the spaces, damper piston movement is converted into displacement of damper part whose position influence the value of channel passage area. Position of part and value of passage area of channel corresponding to constant pressure difference is set to each position of piston. Proposed method can be implemented by means of damper provided with movable shutter installed on piston which overlaps constant throttle, or valve inlet channel, or channel through which pressure difference acts onto valve shutoff member. Damper has member with screw-type guide (or straight guide with variable profile depth) made along piston stroke. With piston moving, shutter engaging with guide executes turn (or moves along piston radius), thus changing the section. EFFECT: provision of automatic change of damper resistance within wide range depending on amplitude of irregularities of road coating; reduced amplitudes of oscillation of sprung mass, reduced force acting onto sprung mass. 17 cl, 36 dwg
