FIELD: hardening of glass articles. SUBSTANCE: glass articles are hardened by preliminary compression of article and acid pickling to depth equalling or larger than the depth of glass compressed layer. Then article is protected with the help of chemical hardening. Preliminary compression is carried out by heat or chemical hardening. Article treated by the method features strength exceeding 450 MPa with its thickness of 3 mm. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 6 cl, 1 tbl
