FIELD: recovery of inorganic wastes, such as chromium, mercury, arsenic-containing materials found in toxic and radioactive wastes. SUBSTANCE: very toxic, primarily radioactive, wastes are immobilized in ceramic material by mixing them with inorganic matrix followed by molding, drying, burning, and cooling of ceramic blocks; bentonite having 50-70 mas.% of montmorillonite and bentonitic number 75 is used as inorganic matrix; burning is conducted at 750-900 C for 4-10 h. Mass ratio of radioactive wastes to bentonite is 1/9-4/10 in terms of total amount of radioactive waste oxides. EFFECT: increased content of radioactive wastes in solid block; provision for eliminating evaporation of volatile radioactive wastes; facilitated procedure. 8 cl, 3 dwg, 2 tbl, 10 ex
