FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves measuring information-significant parameter of hair sample under test. The measured parameter is used for quantitative evaluation of hair properties. Hair state is determined by the degree of hair-swelling in water. Hair sample of at least 18 mm length is used for measurements. Hair sample thickness is measured in dry state and after its achieving maximum saturation with water. Hair swelling degree in water is determined from measured thickness data. Swelling degree (H) is calculated from formula H=(hS-hI)/hI100%, where hI is the hair sample thickness in dry state, hS is the hair sample thickness after its achieving maximum saturation with water. EFFECT: simplified method for obtaining quantitative estimations. 1 tbl
