FIELD: polymerization catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts for oligomerization of styrene into dimers useful in production of synthetic rubber, heat carriers, insulation oil, and solvents for polystyrene. Method consists in using catalytic system including: palladium carboxylate with general formula Pd(OCOR) wherein OCOR is acetate, butyrate, valerate, palmitate, stearate, benzoate; tertiary phosphines with general formula PR3 wherein R is phenyl, o-tolyl, p- chlorophenyl, o-methoxyphenyl, p-ethoxyphenyl; and boron trifluoride etherate BF3OEt2. Components of catalytic system interact in situ in substrate and in absence of solvents at 333-363 K and atomic ratios P/Pd = 1 to 3 and B/Pd = 5 to 10. Method allows styrene to be oligomerized with conversion up to 1.45*105 mole per 1 g-atom of palladium and selectivity with regard to dimers up to 89.7%.
