FIELD: electrical engineering, converters of electric power to heat using electric-arc discharge, in particular, electric power production for complex plasma treatment of coals and ashes, chemistry, metallurgy and manufacturing of melt fire-proof materials. SUBSTANCE: pole pieces 5 of cross magnetic field of plasma reactor carry additional windings 10 which terminals are connected to terminals of reactor electrodes 2. Polarity of connection conforms to condition that additional magnetic control is directed in opposite to main cross magnetic field of series windings 8. Additional windings 10 has taps which provide possibility to alter number of their turns depending on selected mode of reactor operations. Additional windings may be designed as part of coils of control windings 9, which terminals are connected to terminals of electrodes 2 respectively. Goal of invention is achieved by method for control of electric-arc discharge of reactor using arc current modulation with main cross magnetic field, which induction is proportional to arc current, direct current control magnetic field and additional cross magnetic field which induction depends on voltage at arc and its direction is opposite to main magnetic field. EFFECT: increased efficiency of reactor due to increased stability of electric- arc discharge. 4 cl, 2 dwg
