FIELD: isotope separation. SUBSTANCE: potassium metal with natural isotope proportion is placed in reaction cell and heated in presence of hydrogen as gas reagent. Potassium vapors are continuously irradiated using narrow-band emission source (uninterrupted laser) at frequency of an isotope component (4044.1 or 4047.2 ) at total hydrogen vapor pressure no higher than 20 Torr. Resulting isotopes are recovered by condensation in cooled zone or by deactivation to produce stable-in-air products. Content of desired product 40K is more than 50% and that of 87Rb more than 99%.
