FIELD: processes for mechanically working materials and articles, namely ultrasonic dimensional working, for example making target-diameter holes in rigid or fragile materials. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of measuring current value of resonance frequency of ultrasonic oscillation system; automatically tuning frequency of electric oscillation generator, applying electric oscillations to vibration mechanical oscillation system by means of correction filter in the form of electric series-resonance oscillation circuit tuned for operational frequency of vibration system with working tool for making maximum-diameter opening; selecting natural frequencies of ultrasonic oscillation system with different working tools in such a way that oscillation system with working tool for making small-diameter opening corresponds to high mechanical resonance natural frequency. Relation between natural mechanical resonance frequency of oscillation system and dimension of made opening is set independently upon parameters of electric oscillation circuit. EFFECT: enlarged manufacturing possibilities of ultrasonic machine tools, drilling holes of different diameters by means of different resonance frequency tools with the same efficiency. 2 dwg
