FIELD: chemical industry, more particularly recovery of valuable chemical products from wood processing waste. SUBSTANCE: method of preparing betuline from birch bark comprises activation thereof at temperature of 180-260 C, pressure of 3-5 MPa for 60-300 s, treatment with alkali and extraction with alcohol. Birch bark is activated and its alkaline hydrolysis is carried out simultaneously, alkali being used in amount of 10-20%, based on weight of absolutely dry birch bark. EFFECT: shorter process time, smaller amount of alkali used in hydrolysis stage. 1 ex, 1 tbl
