FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: birch bark is preliminary crashed till particle size is 1-3 mm and is subjected to alkaline hydrolysis in presence of potassium hydroxide or sodium hysroxide under following conditions: alkali concentration is from 15 to 25%, hydromodule is 5-6, temperature is 100°C, hydrolysis duration 1-2 h. Betulin is isolated from hydrolyzed reaction mass by extraction with lower aliphatic alcohols - methyl, ethyl or isopropyl.
EFFECT: simplicity of realization, high yield and improvement of betulin quality.
